About Chrystal Power
My name isn’t actually Chrystal Power, it’s Chrystal Hawkins but there is a funny story about where the name Chrystal Power came from (make sure you ask me about that when we connect).
I’m trained and experienced as a district administrator and educator and have extensively studied school district leadership and family engagement. My undergraduate studies in political science were supposed to lead me to law school, but instead led me to education and social change (ask me about that too).
My mom always told me that I came into this world because of the need to spread and reflect more light - that’s why she named me Chrystal. While reflecting light has not always been easy for me or my family, my mom always reminded me of the power and light that lies within me to make a difference.
I started my career in education because I knew the immense power in our young people, especially those who felt powerless to change societal and environmental influences. As an educator and district administrator, I’ve always focused on creating ways to empower people (students, families, school leaders, district staff, community partners) while creating ways to solve challenging problems.
Before, I was only able to empower people and solve problems within one setting but NOW, I am excited to now extend my work, enthusiasm, passion and expertise to all the places, organizations and settings where there is untapped potential or POWER for change!
